Data is information — facts, numbers and answers — that we can collect, sort and show. Year 2 coders collect data with tallies, read tables and pictograms, and answer questions from them.

Asking questions with data
Collecting data starts with a good question: “What is your favourite fruit?” Tallies make counting quick — four lines and a fifth across the gate for every five. A pictogram or bar chart then makes it easy to see which answer is most popular.
Computers are brilliant with data. They can store millions of answers and sort them in a moment.
