A wide vocabulary (kosa kata) lets a writer choose the exact word. Year 6 pupils meet more formal and literary words — mustahak for penting (important), gigih for tekun (persevering), iktibar for pengajaran (a lesson), prihatin for mengambil berat (caring) — and learn to work out a word’s meaning from the sentence around it.
What your child will learn
- Match advanced words to simpler synonyms
- Work out meaning from context
- Give the opposite of a word
Read the clues around the word
In “Polis berusaha membanteras jenayah”, the police are doing something to crime; “menghapuskan” (wipe out) fits, “menggalakkan” (encourage) does not.
Opposites sharpen meaning too: gagal and berjaya, kekal and sementara, memuji and mengeji, untung and rugi, mustahil and mungkin.
