An ayat aktif puts the doer first: “Guru memuji Sarah.” An ayat pasif puts the receiver first: “Sarah dipuji oleh guru.” Both say the same thing with a different focus.
What your child will learn
- Change sentences between active and passive
- Form the passive for saya, aku, kami, kita, kamu and awak
- Recognise passives with ter- and kena
Three kinds of passive
With a third person (dia, mereka, Ali, ibu), use di- and oleh: “Lantai itu disapu oleh kakak.”
With a first or second person (saya, aku, kami, kita, kamu, awak), drop di- and put the pronoun directly before the bare verb, with any helper word in front: “Kerja itu mesti kamu siapkan.” Passives can also use ter- for accidents (“Jari saya terhiris”) or kena (“Pencuri itu kena tangkap”).
