Kata bilangan tell us how many. Some are exact (dua, sepuluh, seratus). Others are not: semua (all), beberapa (several), para (the many — people only), seluruh (the whole). Some gather (kedua-dua, both), some separate (setiap, each; masing-masing, respectively), and some are fractions (separuh, half; suku, a quarter).
What your child will learn
- Choose between exact and inexact number words
- Use para only for people
- Place setiap before a noun and masing-masing after it
- Avoid doubling a noun after a plural number word
Small words, strict rules
Para is only for groups of people: para guru, para pelajar. Because it already means “many”, the noun is not doubled — never “para guru-guru”.
Setiap comes before the noun (“setiap murid”). Masing-masing comes after the noun or verb it refers to (“pulang ke rumah masing-masing”).
