    Body Base

    Year 1 The Human Body

Name the parts of the body, find the joints where we bend and learn what the heart, lungs and brain do.

    • Ages 5–7
    • 3 quests
    • Beginner → Getting stronger → Challenge

Our bodies have many parts, and each one has a job. Year 1 scientists name the parts they can see — head, neck, elbows, knees — and start to learn about the parts inside, like the heart, lungs and brain.

    What your child will learn

    • Name the main parts of the human body
    • Know where joints like elbows, knees and ankles are
    • Know some parts inside the body and what they do
    • Know that bones like the skull and ribs protect us

    Outside and inside

We can see our head, arms, legs, hands and feet. Joints — like shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles — are where our bodies bend.

Inside, the brain helps us think, the heart pumps blood, the lungs help us breathe and the stomach helps digest food. Hard bones protect the soft parts: the skull guards the brain and the ribs guard the heart and lungs.

    Tips for grown-ups

    • Sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and add new parts.
    • Feel your heartbeat before and after running on the spot.
    • Trace around your child on a big sheet of paper and label the body parts.
