Once counting to 5 feels easy, children stretch to 10: counting bigger groups carefully, recognising dice patterns at a glance and making groups of up to 10.
What your child will learn
- Count groups of up to 10 objects accurately
- Recognise dice patterns from 1 to 6 without counting
- Recognise the written numbers 1 to 10
- Make a group of up to 10 objects
Seeing numbers at a glance
Recognising small amounts instantly, without counting (sometimes called subitising), is a strong early sign of number sense. Dice patterns are perfect for practising it, because the dots always sit in the same places.
