Kata seerti, or sinonim, are words that mean the same or nearly the same: cantik and lawa (pretty), pandai and bijak (clever), cepat and pantas (fast). Knowing several words for one idea makes writing richer.
What your child will learn
- Match a word to its synonym
- Swap a word in a sentence for one that means the same
- Tell synonyms from opposites
Same idea, different word
Synonyms let a writer avoid repeating a word: “Bunga itu cantik. Warnanya sungguh indah.”
Some pairs differ in formality. Emak and ibu both mean mother; ibu is a little more formal. Kawan and rakan both mean friend.
