A kata adjektif is an adjective: it tells us what a noun is like. Year 1 meets four kinds — colour (merah, biru), size (besar, kecil, panjang), shape (bulat, lurus) and nature (rajin, baik).
What your child will learn

The adjective comes after
In Malay the adjective usually follows the noun: “baju merah” is literally “shirt red”, and “rumah besar” is “house big”. This is the opposite of English.
Adjectives can be made stronger with sangat (very): sangat tinggi, sangat cantik.
